Transformational Fitness<br />~ Body ~ Shape ~ Space

Through the years we here at McLean MasterWorks have come across amazing systems of healing. In this particular program Transformational Fitness – Body, Shape, Space, we are going to show you some new systems of healing that resemble “fitness” but go SO much farther and deeper.

Imagine allowing your body to find a state of health and balance through simple movements and easy to incorporate exercises that enhance your balance, core and in turn, your overall health dramatically.

Imagine a body free of pain, able to move with ease. And for those that are physically fit continually experience injury-free fitness, and even take performance to a whole new level.

In fact even to those of us that are profoundly out of shape can do these right from the start. Those of us that have debilitating problems that have left us little choice but to have a life of less movement. AND those that are relatively in shape can take their level of fitness to a new form of wholeness (holistically) and health.

People in wheel chairs can do these programs!

No Matter What Level of Fitness You Are At....

These are systems of exercise programs that are actually therapeutic, easy to use programs that get you strong, balanced, whole. That is what you are about to experience in this week of transformation.

We are going to show you systems of “fitness” that not only make you look good and get you stronger, improve your balance and endurance but HEAL.

When you think of fitness, you may think of a gym, and grunting, weights, clinking bell bars... well there is a new kind of fitness, something that is beyond the current paradigm, something that can deliver a therapeutic process and assist in healing WHILE getting you in shape...

HOW COOL IS THAT?

We have put together a remarkable program of those who are on the leading edge of transformational / therapeutic fitness that over the course of 6 days will guide you to a new place of possibility with your body, strength endurance, balance and movement.

You will be amazed at the insights, techniques and simple movements that when practiced can be a game changer.

Derrick Price – Function First Whole Body Health

Derrick’s philosophy on training and exercise begins with meeting his clients where they need to be met. He believes that the body and mind are not separate entities, but rather are connected as part of a whole and have dramatic influences on each other. The key to success for many of Derrick’s clients has been providing the body with intelligent, 3-Dimensional movement, while feeding the mind with structured variety, challenge and most importantly, enjoyment.

He holds an MS in Exercise Science and Health Promotion with an emphasis on injury prevention and performance enhancement from the California University of Pennsylvania where he has also spent time as an Adjunct Faculty member teaching courses in Exercise Program Design.

Function First was founded on the premise that true healing lies in addressing the whole body, not just symptoms. Derrick’s intent is to help you become independently healthy, more fit and safer when exercising, so that you have a health-building resource in exercise.

You will learn how to have a better quality of life in:

  • Daily function
  • Improved vitality
  • Aesthetics and well-being
  • Pain reduction
  • Freedom of movement
  • Greater performance and stress relief

He will reveal systems to relieve chronic pain, and improve health and performance. No matter where you are in the process, anywhere from just trying to find relief to taking your body to the next level, you will find guidance here.

Many of Function First’s clients pursued traditional rehab methods or personal training and found they were not achieving full function or pain-free movement. In some cases, they had degraded their condition and did not know where to turn for improvement. Unlike the reactive medical intervention models, Function First uses proactive strategies to uncover the underlying cause.

Ellen Barlow - Movement Training

Certified GYROTONIC® and specialized equipment instructor, Ellen is a movement education specialist with over 25 years experience teaching and designing programs in fitness, rehabilitation, dance, yoga and other mind-body practices. She is a Registered Movement Therapist with the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association and a certified practitioner and teacher of Body-Mind Centering®.

While Ellen approaches movement training from multiple perspectives, she engages her GYROTONIC® exercise clients in anatomical awareness and perceptual-motor learning so they may embody their experiences of improved alignment, strength, flexibility, coordination and balance.

GYROTONIC® exercises employ movements found in swimming, yoga, gymnastics and tai chi using machines developed by Juliu Horvath. The system enables one to achieve simultaneous strength and flexibility. It is used world-wide by dancers, athletes, and in rehabilitation facilities, as well as for general conditioning for all walks of life.

Unlike most conventional exercise machines where linear or isolated movements are performed, the GYROTONIC® motions emphasize multiple joint articulations without compression in circular motions. Special attention is paid to increased mobility and stability of the spine, resulting in a superior and well-proportioned body that is less prone to injury.

Sara K. Vogeler - NeuroMuscular Therapy

NeuroMuscular therapy (NMT) addresses sports injuries: neck, back, TMJ, etc., movement problems and poor posturenmotor delays in infants and adults, exercise after pregnancy and to stay fit, developmental movement education and natural hormone balancing.

Thirty years ago, Sara K. Vogeler, Director and Founder of The NeuroMuscular Center, Inc., realized that personalized movements and specific touch could heal and help people overcome injuries and misalignments. She became an expert at analyzing and correcting posture, changing movement patterns, and reducing pain.

Sara's neuromuscular practice began in 1972, when friends told her they improved after her sessions. She realized that personalized movements and specific touch could heal and help people feel much better.

She earned a B.S. in Dance Therapy at NYU before becoming a professional dancer and choreographer, and was certified as a teacher of dance in the public school system. She became one of the first certified teachers in Body-Mind Centering® (BMC), a unique system that explores connections in the body. She studied hands-on techniques, including one for jaw pain and tongue placement. After studying pre-med and nutrition, she became a certified Personal Trainer and licensed Massage Therapist in New York State, so combining movement with manipulation came naturally.

Neuromuscular Therapy is dramatic in it's ability to locate trigger points, correct postural imbalances, reduce pain and improve a person's quality of life. Sara K. Vogeler has added movement therapy to NMT to correct faulty patterns that may cause jaw, neck, back, knee or wrist pain. She can often restore the appropriate range of motion, easy movement and one's sense of well-being by listening and sensing with her hands what is going on.

Lindsay Newitter - Alexander Technique:

Lindsay is an AmSAT-Certified Alexander Technique Teacher, offering private lessons and small group classes in New York City.

The Alexander Technique is an educational self-care method that has been around for over 100 years. It will equip you with skills to eliminate tension and strain and can be applied to sitting, walking, speaking, working out, playing music, lifting children – anything you do!

Three common reasons for taking Alexander Technique lessons:

  1. Reduce/Eliminate Chronic PAIN: The Alexander Technique can reveal unconscious habits of tension that may be at the root of chronic pain (back pain, neck and shoulder pain, wrist pain, jaw pain, Repetitive Stress Injury, and a variety of other ailments)

  2. Improve a SKILL: Addressing habits of unnecessary tension and strain helps to improve the performance of actors, musicians, dancers and athletes and can help improve day-to-day skills like walking, lifting and bending, reducing the potential for injury.

  3. Promote General WELL-BEING: Alexander lessons help to integrate the mind and body, generating greater clarity of thinking and body-awareness. Students often feel more relaxed and energized and are able to use their new awareness as a preventative tool to avoid strain and injury.
